Samantha

March 9, 2007

This competition was held at the "Igloo" in Mt. Laurel, New Jesery. Sammie skated at 8:30 AM (which is earlier than usual for her) but seemed to have a lot of energy. She placed 2nd out of 8 which surprised us all because she made a wrong turn and missed one of her jumps. But that just gives her something to work on! Mommy made her dress which has about 15 gross of Swarovski crystals on it (each one placed by hand!).

Getting ready for "take off" - going into a jump.

All finished - ta da!

On October 12th, Sammie skated in the South Altantic Regionals. This is the start of the Olympic road for older skaters. Sammie's group is a "non-qualifying event". Skaters from all over the east coast participated in this event. She came in 4th in her group which was terrific because she has only been skating for a year.

Sammie is starting to do jumps and more complicated spins. We loved these action shots taken during her event.

Saturday, August 5, 2006 - Atlantic City - Sammie got the gold medal in Compulsory Moves for her level and for her music routine.

A curtsey to the Judges
Sammie received a gold medal for her skate routine in a Basic with Music category. She picked a song from Disney's Aladdin (Friend Like Me) and her mommy made her a skate dress to look like Jasmine. Next week she'll be skating in a competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Saturday April 1, 2006

Sammie doing "Compulsory Moves" - at this age, the judges ask each skater to do an element. They then go back to the judges table and are told what to do next.

The gold medal for the Compulsory Moves. That look on Sammie's face is when she told us she already had a gold medal from the last time and this time she wanted a silver one. She doesn't quite understand the ratings yet - but girlfriend knows her jewelry!

"Basic with Music" is a one minute program to music.
Her choice was "Under the Sea" from the Little Mermaid.

Gold for the music section - the flowers helped us get over the disappointment about not getting a silver this time either. After we got home her coach sent us an email and said we'd work on the silver for the next time <grin>

Sammie with her two best friends, Katie (in the green) and Jenna (in the pink). Fortunately each of the girls competes in a different category.

Sammie's mom made the dresses for Sammie and her friends. Sammie's coach mentioned that she could change between the sessions so, of course, the diva had to have two different dresses.

After the competition we all went out to eat. The girls sat together at one table and the waiter brought them a huge hot fudge sundae with 3 spoons. They had a ball!

From her first competition:

Little Miss "serious" on the ice, her music was "It's a Small World After All" and boy did she look small all by her little self on that huge empty ice surface!

Mommy made her skate dress, Gigi designed and embroidered the patterns on the bodice and back. Mommy added rhinestones too. Anybody need directions for embroidering on stretch velvet? We learned the hard way, and quickly!!!
Now we're smiling, we got the gold medal and a large bouquet of roses. Afterward we found out that other winners got beanie babies and stuffed animals so guess what we need to get for the next competition!
